Armed tribe recruiting people in mountain barangays

The Police Coordinating and Advisory Council (PCAC) of Cebu City Hall wants more police detachments in the city’s mountain barangays.

Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, who heads the council, said they received reports of the presence of armed men claiming to be a tribe named KKK Alimaong-Higaonon who are recruiting members in the barangays.

“This has become the concern of barangays in the mountains like Cambinocot, Paril, Agsungot, Guba and Binaliw. This group has even sent summons and they seem to have their own form of government and authority,” Labella said.

The PCAC invited Regional Director Leilani Gallardo of the National Commission for Indigenous People (NCIP) 7 to their meeting next week to verify whether the Alimaong are accredited by their office.

PCAC received reports from police and barangay officials that “summons” were issued by the Alimaong tribe to SPO2 Renante Noida and other Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team to their “Balay Husayanan” in barangay Talamban.

Also invited were Supt. Arnel Banzon and Agsungot barangay chairperson Anne Alcover.

A certain Narciso Telamo “Datu Tabal II,” who claims to be the tribe chieftain of the Sugbuanon tribe of Alimaong issued the “summons” to the officials.

The tribe accused the officials of trespassing on their ancestral domain and taking their flag at their tribe headquarters. They also accused the officials of allegedly killing a certain Rodelio Estores.

Labella said he advised the officials not to heed the summons and instructed Senior Insp. Bienvenido Miral, Talamban police precinct chief, to investigate the “Balay Husayanan” in sitio Mary Grace, Kalubihan in barangay Talamban, Cebu City to see if it’s real or not.

“We will have three more detachments in Sudlon I, Agsungot or Cambinocot, and Pung-ol Sibugay or Toong. (Senior Supt. Noli) Romana assured that they can provide the personnel,” Labella said.
