A company that made a living from making singlets for running events is set to organize its own race.
And it’s going to be a unique one.
Kayod Pilipino, a Cebu-based shirt and printing company that makes race singlets, launched yesterday the United Statement Run Cebu, which will be held on Dec. 14 starting at the Parkmall in Mandaue City.
Just like other races, this race will offer different categories. The United Statement Run will have 10-kilometer, 5k and 3k distances.
What makes this race different is that participants can personalize their singlets.
Upon registration, a runner can write down a favorite statement, quote or saying that will then be printed on their singlets. Each runner will be given until 80 characters.
“This is a first of its kind running event where each runner can shout out their favorite statement or quote,” said Exel Canque, who, along with Ray dela Serna, started Kayod Pilipino. “We’ve searched the Internet and so far we are the only ones who came up with this idea.”
Canque and Dela Serna led the press launching yesterday at Dong Juan in Parkmall.
Registration can be done at RUNNR at the Ayala Center Cebu and at the Parkmall. Registration fees are P400 for the 3k, P450 for the 5k and P550 for the 10k. This is inclusive of the statement shirt, refreshments after the run and finishers medal.
Cash prizes will be given to the top three runners in each division.
Proceeds of this event will go to the Kayod Pilipino scholars.
“This is a non-profit running event. All of the proceeds will go straight to our scholarship foundation. This is our way of giving thanks to the Cebuano runners because if not for them, our business wouldn’t have grown to what it is right now,” Dela Serna said.
The race will be handled by Joel Baring and is supported by the Cebu Ultrarunners Club (CUC), headed by Tony Galon.
