Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu’s General Manager Nishan Silva receives award

Radisson Blue Hotel Cebu is the first city hotel in the Philippines to bag a HICAP Award, for its dedicated commitment to preserving the environment in its community. Radisson Blue was recently honored with the Sustainable Hotel Award for Sustainable Operations, at the 25th Annual Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific (HICAP) in Hong Kong. Established 25 years ago, HICAP is considered to be the most established and recognized conference for Asia Pacific’s hotel investment and development community.

Led by the guiding principle, “We are the people, we are the community, and we are the environment,” Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu molds their Responsible Business practices with a concern for diversity and health and safety of their employees and guests, showing leadership in social and ethical responsibilities not only within the Cebuano community, but also on the international scale.

Through active programs and consistent monitoring of environmental performance via its participation with the EarthCheck Certification Program, Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu has achieved the following: significant reductions in total waste, emissions, and consumption; proper monitoring of per guest night metric ratings; and exceeding best practice benchmarks.

Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu’s key contributing initiatives include mangrove and tree planting, being Cebu City’s only hotel with an Enterprise Building Automation System, wide-spread use of energy and water saving devices and policies, rain water collection for irrigation and cleaning, creation of an in-house Integrated Energy Committee driven by the Blu Connect Council (BCC) for overseeing the hotel’s compliance on energy and water efficiency, pro-active employee and guest education, and extensive recycling and waste management programs leading to zero waste. The Blu Connect Council focuses on 5 key areas: Guest, Employee, Generation Y, Responsible Business and Change and Innovation.

“Being part of the hospitality industry, we always believe in providing a holistic experience that is driven by managing environmental and social sustainability through our program, Responsible Business. We are humbled by the honor to be the 1st city hotel not only in Cebu but in the Philippines to be awarded by the HICAP Sustainable Hotel Awards for Sustainable Operations. As our commitment to the people, environment and the community, we will continue to improve and develop further our acts of green through Responsible Business.” Nishan Silva, General Manager

The Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific’s (HICAP) hopes to bring awareness of the importance of sustainable and environmentally conscious best practices to the Asia Pacific community, thus bringing forth the Sustainable Hotel Awards. The Sustainable Hotel Awards were launched at HICAP in 2007 to recognize hotels in the Asia Pacific region demonstrating exemplary sustainable best practices.

This year, Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu has also achieved a number of recognitions for its best practices on its Responsible Business initiatives. The hotel recently brought home a special recognition on Climate Change in the Sustainable Business Awards Philippines 2014 by Global Initiatives. Radisson Blu was the only hotel to be presented an award. The hotel is also one of only two hotels in the country to be EarthCheck Silver Certified since 2012.
