Barangay  Talamban councilman and former Land Transportation Office (LTO-7) regional director Alex Leyson was arrested by operatives of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-7) for graft.

Police served the arrest warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Sylvia Aguirre-Paderanga against Leyson at 4 p.m. Monday in his residence in barangay Talamban, Cebu City.

Leyson is facing a case for violation of  Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. He immediately posted bail of P180,000 and was subsequently released.

Leyson is among the five LTO-7 officials who were implicated in the alleged misuse of more than P23 million in public funds.

His co-accused,  LTO-7 officer Joel Maloloy-on was arrested three times last month by CIDG-7 also for graft charges.

The other accused are former supervising transportation regulation officer Gonzalo Baybay, former finance and management division officer-in-charge Corazon Bascon and former assistant cashier Marissa Abear Veriña.

Leyson, Baybay, Bascon and Veriña were already dismissed from LTO by the Visayas Ombudsman early this year for their involvement in the illegal release of P20.9 million in public funds in 2005.
