A fastfood chain manager was found dead inside his home in Florida County Subdivision in barangay Dumlog, Talisay City at past 10 p.m. last Saturday.

Talisay City police said 35-year-old John Paul Basallo was found lying in bed and soaked in his own blood from the bullet wound on his head. The .38 revolver was found in his right hand.

His body was discovered by his wife Liezel who said she had to climb the locked fence in their home just to open the front door because he wasn’t answering her.

Liezel said she went to their bedroom immediately, turned on the lights and found her husband dead.

A police officer tried in vain to revive the victim. Police found five bullets and an empty shell.

SPO1 Benjamin Sebellita, one of the investigators, told Cebu Daily News that Liezel told them that she took a day off from work to talk to her husband the day before the incident.

“She told us, John Paul was having a hard time from his bosses in a fastfood chain branch in Talamban, Cebu City where he worked as a manager and even talked about quitting his job,” Sebellita said.

He said Liezel thought everything would be okay after she encouraged her husband not to resign.

She went to work last Saturday to attend the company’s Christmas party and her husband even sent her to work.

“She was alarmed when she received some text from John Paul that read something like saying goodbye and that’s when she arrived later that night with her husband already dead,” Sebellita said.

Married for three years, the couple still had no children.

Police said they are still looking at other angles in the case.
