LIST: Suspension of classes on Jan. 11
CEBU CITY, Philippines – Several local government units (LGUs) here suspended classes on Wednesday, January 11, due to inclement weather.
As of 10:30 a.m., at least 15 localities in Cebu declared suspension of classes in all levels, according to a report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
These include the towns of Cordova, Compostela, Alegria, Sogod, Santander, Daanbantayan, Madridejos, Ronda, Argao, the rest of Bantayan Island, and the entire Camotes Island
Damp weather will prevail over Cebu on Wednesday due to the shear line and the extensions or troughs of a low-pressure area (LPA).
As of 3 a.m., the LPA was spotted 295 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in Mactan (Pagasa-Mactan) said.
The state weather bureau at 8 a.m. even issued a rainfall warning for the entire Cebu, saying light to moderate with occasional heavy rains are expected.
“Pagasa warns of flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas,” Pagasa-Mactan added.
