Two new attractions for Suroy-Suroy south tour
The Cebu provincial government said two new attractions will be unveiled in the southern Cebu tour of its Suroy Suroy sa Sugbo countryside tourism program in January next year.
Provincial Tourism Officer Mary Grace Paulino said the itinerary will include Aguinid Falls, a five-level cascade waterfall in Samboan town and Mainit Hot Springs in Malabuyoc town.
Southern Cebu towns are better known for their well-preserved heritage sites but Paulino said they also want to promote the budding eco-tourism destinations there.
She said this will be a “fresh change” for balikbayans who often join the January tour right after Sinulog.
The three-day tour will be held on January 21 to 23 and is expected to attract 200 participants.
Fixture
“We want to showcase the other places so that it will be a different experience for those who come regularly,” Paulino told Cebu Daily News.
But next year’s tour won’t include Kawasan Falls in Badian town, Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said yesterday.
Kawasan Falls, a regular fixture in the Suroy’s southern Cebu leg due to its crystal clear waters, was damaged due to the flashfloods caused by typhoon Queenie last month.
The typhoon deformed Kawasan’s natural landscape and swept some of the man-made structures in the area.
Paulino said they are still hopeful that the beauty of Kawasan will be restored in time for the next tour in 2016.
Accessible
She said Aguinid Falls in Samboan town will make up for the absence of Kawasan.
The five-level waterfall is situated in barangay Tangbo, around 2.5 kilometers away from the town proper.
Magpale said the falls is one of the eco-tourism projects of the town with its developments tracked by the province.
This year, she said roads leading to the falls have already been established, making it more accessible to tourists.
Paulino said they will add rooms and huts in the area to accommodate large gatherings such as the Suroy-Suroy participants.
Mainit Springs in barangay Montaneza, Malabuyoc town is known among residents for its healing qualities.
Tourists can take a dip in the three pools of the spring, with varying temperatures — the hottest at 44 degrees Celsius.
Steam comes out of the pools while the water is crystal clear, enabling visitors to see the rock bed below.
Paulino said they will reserve a whole afternoon for the stop in order for guests to relax and enjoy the hot springs.
“We will continue the relaxed pace. The guests will have ample time in each stop,” she said.
Aside from Samboan and Malabuyoc, the other towns in the initial list are Moalboal, Santander, Oslob and Boljoon
Paulino said they are still finalizing the rates but said the tour could cost participants P7,000 to P14,000.
