8-hour water stoppage today

By: Jose Santino S. Bunachita January 03,2015 - 12:01 AM

WATER service will be interrupted in many parts of Metro Cebu from 8 a.m. to 4 pm. today.

This is necessary for the   water  pipe interconnection of the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD system to allow the injection of additional  18,000 cubic meters per day from Carmen surface water bulk supply, said MCWD general manager Ernie Delco.

The public was advised to store water for the eight-hour gap that will affect all of Consolacion, parts of Compostela and Liloan towns.

Low water pressure or no supply will be experienced in  parts of Mandaue City, the North Reclamation Area and barangay Mabolo in Cebu City and parts of Lapu-Lapu City specifically in barangays Ibo, Buaya and Mactan.

The bulk supply is so far the biggest volume that MCWD gets from a private supplier.

Delco said it will enable MCWD to expand to  26,000 additional service connections to benefit around 125,000 people.

Out of its total service area, the MCWD has only served 43 percent of the total demand.

The surface water  supply from Carmen town would  reduce pressure  on  groundwater sources that could damage natural aquifers.

MCWD’s 12 percent  rate hike, which starts this month, is part of the bulk water supply  upgrade.  The increase will be reflected in  bills starting February.
