Undefeated Gumban stakes PH super flyweight crown in ALA Sinulog card

Undefeated Melvin “Top Gun” Gumban of Escalante City will defend his Philippine Super Flyweight title against Weljan Ugbaniel in the main event of the ALA-Cobra Tunay Na Lakas Sinulog Fight card on Jan. 18 at the Gaisano Country Mall car park in barangay Banilad, Cebu City.

Gumban, who is undefeated after 18 fights with nine wins via  knockouts, will stake his unblemished record against Sarangani Province’s Ugbaniel, who holds a record of 13-2-1 (win-loss-draw).

Ugbaniel is also on a three-match win streak since settling for a draw against Gabriel Altarejos in a fight for the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental Super Flyweight belt last 2012.

In the co-main event, Tabuelan, Cebu’s  pride Elmo “Bisdak” Traya (6-1,5KOs) will fight Gabby Siempo (5-5-1,1KOs) of Cagayan de Oro in a 135-pound division match scheduled for eight rounds. Vicente Casido of Dumaguete City will also go up against John Rey Lorico of Koronadal City in a six-round showdown in the undercard.

Melvin Jerusalem of Bukidnon and Rez Padrogane of Koronadal City will fight for six rounds in a 105-pound match while Gerald Suico of Mandaue City will fight Junrex Saldivia also from Koronadal City in a 115-pound bout.

Three four-round matches will complete the eight-bout fight card put up by the famed ALA Boxing Gym and Cobra Energy Drink.

Junder Gregorio and Jesson Horteza will fight in a 124-pound match, Joepher Montano and Melvin Lagumbay square off in a 128-pound bout, while Michael Estrella and Jonnel Burlado will fight in yhr opening bout in the 105-pound division.
