BLUE bags filled with fruits were distributed to 500 child patients of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) by  visiting Vice President Jejomar Binay yesterday.

The bags which bore a smiley face and a “Be Nice” message were given by the vice president on behalf of his daughter Sen. Nancy Binay.

T-shirts bearing the “Tatak Binay” logo were also distributed to some parents in the hospital’s pediatric ward.

The vice president, who visited the towns hit by typhoon Seniang in southern Cebu last Sunday, denied that the hospital visit was a form of early campaigning for the 2016 elections.

“I acted as the messenger of my daughter. Alaga nya kasi ang hospital nato (She takes care of this hospital). If may occassion may papadala siya like pagkain (If there are occasions she would send something like food),” he told the reporters.

Binay stayed for nearly one hour talking to the doctors whom he asked about the conditions of the children at the hospital’s pediatric ward and Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Binay said the T-shirts were Christmas gifts to them.

Selfies

The vice president also posed for selfies with the hospital’s medical staff and those who greeted him.

Before he visited the children, Binay greeted an 86-year old wheelchair bound Korean War veteran.

Last Sunday Binay visited and gave aid to victims of typhoon Seniang in the towns of Ronda, Carcar, Dumanjug and Sibonga.
Work-related

Binay also attended Sunday Mass at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño.

“I’m the chairman of the National Housing Authority (NHA), Pag-ibig and I’m in charge of programs for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) so my visit is work-related,” he said.

“I really don’t know what to answer on that question. It depends on how they think of it,” the vice president added.

Binay said his staff is also in other parts of the country attending to victims of typhoon Seniang.

When asked about the ongoing Senate blue ribbon committee investigations on him, Binay said it’s their problem.

“It’s up to them. What they are after) is to create perception,” Binay laughed.
