Out of 85 administrative cases filed against some policemen in Central Visayas, 25 have already been resolved.
Suspension was the common sanction imposed in the resolved cases, said Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, chief of the Regional Investigation and Detection Management Division of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7).
Lawas said most of the cases filed against police were grave misconduct and extortion.
Most of the cases involved policemen from Cebu.
Lawas said most of the resolved cases are still under appeal by the respondents.
With the numerous cases filed against policemen, there should be strict policy in hiring police applicants, said Lawas, adding that the background of the applicants must be carefully checked to determine if the would-be policemen are involved in illegal activities.
Senior Supt. Edward Carranza, chief of staff of PRO-7, said prosecuting erring policemen is a way of cleansing the ranks the PNP.
