Cebuana spiker is NCAA MVP

THOUGH HER team, the San Sebastian Lady Stags, lost the NCAA crown to Arellano University via a sweep, Cebuana volleyball star Gretchel Soltones can console herself with a couple of awards, including the season’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) plum.

Arellano University captured the NCAA Season 90 women’s volleyball crown with a 25-23, 25-19, 26-24 win in Game 2 that swept the best-of-three series, 2-0. Arellano also won Game 1, 25-18, 25-15, 20-25, 25-19.

In spite of the bitter end to the season, Soltones, a former ace of the Pajo National High School Vipers, was a one-woman wrecking crew for the youthful Lady Stags squad, which she led in scoring en route to bagging the league’s Best Scorer plum before she was given the prestigious MVP award.

She was not the only Cebuana to be feted as former University of Southern Philippines-Foundation high school standout Shyrra Cabriana bagged the Best Server and Best Setter awards.
