The Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Lapu Lapu City is upgrading its facilities in preparation for the country’s hosting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit later this year.
Immigration Commissioner Siegfred Mison said in a press statement that they installed 29 passport readers and 20 computers at the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA).
“We are overjoyed at this significant IT infrastructure improvement. Expect faster speed and greater accuracy in passenger processing,” he said in his statement.
Early this month, BI also installed 171 new passport readers, 160 desktop computers and 141 UPS (uninterrupted power supply) units at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Upgrade of the Clark International Airport will follow. “In the coming months, we are expecting more improvements such as the acquisition of additional passport readers and computers for the Clark International Airprot, the installation of self-service immigration counters, and the procurement of CCTV cameras and other surveillance equipment,” Mison added. Cebu will host some of the Apec ministerial meetings.
