Police, enforcers seek LTO’s help on drag race
THE police and traffic enforcement agency of Mandaue City is seeking the help of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in solving illegal drag-racing activities in the Mandaue Reclamation Area.
Edwin Ermac, operations chief of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM), lamented that they seem helpless as his enforcers are on duty only until 10 p.m. and drag-racing activities usually happen at dawn.
“The LTO is the proper authority to apprehend them because they can issue a TOP (temporary operator’s permit) which carries stiffer penalties,” Ermac said.
Mandaue City Police Office director Senior Supt. Petronili Baldebrin said he deploys uniformed personnel, especially during weekends, in the reclamation area to check the documents of the cars participating in a drag race.
“If ever they can’t show proof of ownership or certificate of registration, we then impound their vehicle,” he said.
But Baldebrin also said they need the LTO’s help in curbing this problem.
Baldebrin said aside from obstructing the streets, the activity is also dangerous and may result in death and damage to government properties along the area.
