CEBU CITY, Philippines—Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. needs to wait a bit longer for his chance to reclaim the World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight crown after his July 15 bout at the Chelsea Arena in Las Vegas has been rescheduled to a later date.

The fight between Donaire and Mexican Alexandro Santiago for the WBC world title has been moved by Showtime Boxing to July 29 (July 30, Manila Time).

Instead of being a main event, it will be included in the undercard of the welterweight unification showdown between Errol Spence Jr. and Terrence Crawford at the T-Mobile Arena, still in Las Vegas.

This was officially announced by WBC through a statement and social media posts on Wednesday.

It can be recalled that Donaire, who once held the WBC world bantamweight title, trained for several months at a well-known boxing gym in Cebu.

In addition, Donaire also had the chance to promote his waste-to-energy program in Cebu.

This will be the first fight for Donaire since June last year when he lost the title to Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue in a devastating technical knockout.

At age 40, Donaire guns to become the oldest bantamweight world champion to add a feather to his already decorated cap. He has a record of 42 wins, 28 by knockouts, and seven losses.

Meanwhile, Santiago, 27, has a 27-3-5 (win-loss-draw) record with 14 knockout wins. He is the reigning Mexican bantamweight champion.
