Enjoy the long weekend without worries, take note of these safety tips

 


CEBU CITY, Philippines – Long weekends mean more time to relax and spend quality time with family as you take a pause from the usual daily program at school or at work.

For many individuals, the long weekend from Friday to Monday, (August 25 to 28, 2023) is the perfect time to create more memories with loved ones and friends after busy days at work.

While for some, it provides the perfect opportunity to catch up on much needed relaxation time by either sleeping in or going out to your favorite places around the city.

No matter how you decide to spend your long weekend, it is important to always take the necessary precautions to make sure that you and your companions are safe and secured while you enjoy your short break.

So, before you head to the destinations you have planned for on the long weekend, make sure to take note of these tips in order to keep yourself and your family safe at all times.

These are crime prevention tips from the annual summer vacation security campaign of the Philippine National Police (PNP):

  1. Always follow the Minimum Public Health Standards whenever you go outside and interact with people.
  2. Arrive early at bus terminals or leave early when using personal vehicles to avoid line or congested traffic.
  3. Bring sufficient amount of money and all the necessary things for your trip.
  4. Be alert for pickpockets.
  5. Find out the location of the First-aid station or the Police Assistance Desk at the area you will be going to.
  6. Always bring enough water to avoid dehydration especially on hot days.

Meanwhile, here are some tips you should follow before leaving your house.

  1. Make sure that the doors and windows are tightly locked and closed before you leave.
  2. Get a CCTV or a guard dog to guard your house while you are away.
  3. Always double check to make sure that no gadgets or machines are plugged in as you leave the house.
  4. Store your valuable items in secure places that only you know.
  5. Ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on your house while you are outside.
  6. Avoid leaving notes outside your house stating that you are home alone.

Lastly, check out these tips and reminders before you drive to your favorite places to relax or do your hobbies.

  1. Make sure that you are in the right condition and state of mind before your drive.
  2. Always wear a seatbelt inside the vehicle.
  3. Don’t drink any alcoholic drinks if you are the designated driver.
  4. Familiarize yourself with the traffic rules in your area and around your destination.
  5. Don’t use your mobile phone while driving.
  6. Remain at a safe distance from other vehicles around you.
  7. Don’t forget to check your “Blowbagets” to determine the condition of your vehicle before leaving. This checklist requires you to check the ‘battery, lights, oil, water, brake, air, gas, engine, tire, and self.’
