CEBU CITY, Philippines — In terms of sky condition, the public can experience a sunny period this week: partly cloudy to cloudy.

However, there are still chances of rains here from light to moderate, which are the isolated rains according to Engineer Al Quiblat, chief of The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Mactan (Pagasa-Mactan).

“Kay ang bagyo man gud nipalayo na. Katong si Goring padung na mo exit sa Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), expected karong gabii or ugma sa buntag,” Quiblat said.

(Because the typhoon is going far away. Goring is going to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), which is expected to happen this evening or tomorrow morning.)

Quiblat also said that there is another typhoon called “Hanna” which is reported to enter the PAR.

“Posibleng makasud karong gabii or anytime of the day. So, ang kaning mga bagyoha, nikatay man siya sa atoang southwest monsoon (habagat) so ang significant nga effect sa Visayas, particularly sa Central kay kani ra gyung pagkusog sa hangin,” he said.

(Possibly this will enter this evening or anytime of the day. So, this storm, will spread to the southwest monsoon (habagat) so the significant effect in the Visayas, particularly in Central (Visayas) is the wind getting stronger.)

Moreover, he said, that as of today, August 30, Pagasa-Mactan had retained the gale warning throughout the Visayas, including Cebu, Bohol, and Negros Oriental.

There is a possibility that the gale warning will last until tomorrow, August 31, according to Quiblat.

“Posible rin sa Friday, mawagtang na atong gale warning kay kining si Goring, palayo naman ni sa atong nasud. Padung [na] sa China, so mominus na ang iyang epekto diri pero aktibo pa ang southwest monsoon,” he said.

(It’s possible on Friday, our gale warning will be lifted because Goring is going farther from our country. It is heading towards China, so the effect will lessen here but the southwest monsoon is

Meanwhile, for Hanna, which is still outside PAR as of the afternoon of Wednesday, will still continue to enhance the southwest monsoon.

“Pero dili nato e-expect ang iyang (Hanna) pagkatap sa habagat [kay] mas kusog ni Goring kay mas layo mani iyahang position kaysa ni Goring na niagi didto dapita sa Babuyan Island,” he explained with CDN Digital.

(But we don’t expect this (Hanna) to affect the habagat [because] Goring is stronger because the position (of Hanna) is farther than Goring, which passed there in the Babuyan Island.)

Quiblat said that Hanna would have no chance to landfall in the country.

“Ari ra ni siya dapit sa eastern portion sa atoang PAR, sa gilid, and then mogawas ra pod dayon. Wala siyay direktang epekto sa nasud. Di pareho ni Goring mao nang naka issue ta og mga tropical cyclone wind signals kay niduol gyud didtong dapita sa extreme northern Luzon,” he said.

(It will only be here in the eastern portion of our PAR, at the side, and then it will go out the country. It will not have a direct effect on the country. Unlike Goring, that is why we issued tropical cyclone wind signals because this went nearer to the area in the extreme northern Luzon.)

The wind is expected to be 30 to 50 kilometers per hour until tomorrow, August 31.

Meanwhile on Friday, September 1, it will decrease to 30 to 45 kilometers per hour.

With this, Quiblat said that there would be a possibility that they would lift the gale warning.

“Kay ganun pa rin, kay kung 30 to 45 kilometers per hour, 2.12 meters ang gitas-on sa balod. Delikado gihapon sa mga gagmayng sakyanang pandagat,” he said.

(Because that is the case, because 30 to 45 kilometers per hour, the height of the waves is 2.12 meters. It is still dangerous for small sea vessels.)

“For today (August 30) naa tay 1.3 to 3 meters nga gitas-on sa balod hangtud nana sa Thursday, that’s why atong ge expect nga ma retain yung gale warning for Visayas,” he added.

(For today (August 30), the height of the waves, we have 1.3 to 3 meters, that is until Thursday, that’s why we expect that the gale warning for the Visayas will be retained.)

The temperature is 26 to 30 degrees celsius today, August 30.

And the average temperature until Sunday, September 3, is 24 to 32 degrees celsius.
