CEBU CITY, Philippines – At least six suspected communist-rebels were killed in a firefight with soldiers in Bohol on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

The Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) confirmed that a clash between suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA)  and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Sitio Ilaud, Barangay Campagao in Bilar town.

It reportedly happened close to 8 a.m. on Thursday, said Police Executive Master Sergeant Edwin Joseph Silagan, deputy at the Bilar Police Station.

By 10 a.m., the sounds of gunshots died down, he said, which meant that the gunfight lasted for approximately three hours.

In a separate report from the BPPO, law enforcers from the Task Group Bohol were in Barangay Campagao in Bilar for an operation when they encountered suspected members of the NPA.

They seized at least five high-powered firearms from the suspected rebels killed in Bohol.

In the meantime, police in Bilar have already set up various checkpoints in their locality as clearing operations continued on the battle site.
