A 16-year-old boy was killed after being crushed by a fallen coconut tree allegedly hit by lightning in Barangay Ampongol, Sogod town, northern Cebu, on Wednesday evening, September 20, 2023.
Police identified the victim as James Marvie Apor, a resident of the barangay. His aunt told police that at around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Marvie asked permission from his grandmother to deliver something to a neighbor’s house.
The victim’s grandmother allegedly tried to stop the boy from leaving the house, saying it was too dangerous to go out late at night because of the heavy rain and thunder.
However, the teenager ignored his grandmother’s warnings and left the house anyway.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista has ordered the Office of Transportation Security to file charges against the security screener accused of stealing and swallowing 300 dollars from a departing passenger.
On September 8, a checkpoint supervisor reported that a passenger lost 300 dollars at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1.
CCTV footage showed a female security officer stealing and swallowing the missing cash.
In a statement on Thursday, the Department of Transportation said Bautista had already directed Lawyer Reinier Yebra, Undersecretary for Legal Affairs, to assist in filing the complaints against the personnel and those involved in the theft incident.
Yebra said that the Secretary had authorized imposing the maximum penalty on those found guilty to demonstrate the Department’s determined push to rid Naia and other attached agencies of scalawags.
There’s good news for passengers heading to bus terminals here in Cebu.
The Cebu Provincial Government announced they would no longer ask passengers to pay 5 pesos to use restrooms in the Cebu South Bus Terminal and Cebu North Bus Terminal.
These were among the changes Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia wanted to introduce in the province-owned passenger terminals, as reported by Sugbo News, the Capitol’s media arm.
Aside from revoking restroom fees, the Capitol also plans to put air-conditioning systems in the entire CSBT.
