Body found under rubble of collapsed seawall in Santander, Cebu
CEBU CITY, Philippines – The body of a man was found under the rubble of a collapsed seawall in Barangay Liloan, Santander in southern Cebu on Thursday, September 21.
Police Major Mariejin Calunod, chief of Santander Police Station, identified the victim as Rubin Villamor, a native of Carmen town in northern Cebu.
In an interview with radio station dyHP, Calunod said that Villamor was believed to have mental problems and was often seen by residents roaming the area to especially ask for food.
She said it was possible that Villamor was taking shelter there when part of the seawall collapsed a few days back due to heavy rains and strong winds.
Calunod said that Villamor’s body was found by a resort employee who was trying to remove the debris from the collapsed seawall.
The resort employee immediately reported the discovery of Villamor’s body to the police.
Calunod said that they could not yet say exactly when Villamor was killed. But based on the outcome of their initial investigation, it was possible that he was talking shelter in a nearby tree or shade, as he would always do, when part of the seawall collapsed.
“Siguro sa pressure sa tubig sa dagat kay seawall baya. Tungod sad sa uwan pud,” she said.
As of this writing, Santander police continue to coordinate with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development office to help Villamor’s family claim his remains.
Santander is a fourth-class municipality located at the southernmost tip of Cebu island. / dcb
