LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – A causeway project worth P46 million was turned over by the DPWH Sixth Engineering District to officials of Barangay Tingo in Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City on Friday, September 22, 2023.
The city and the national government financed the project which measures 116 meters long and around 3 meters wide.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan said that the causeway project will be used by fisherfolks and pump boat operators to dock their pump boats.
Chan also expressed his gratitude to the national government for allocating funds for the completion of the project.
Chan was referring to the close coordination between his office and that of Lapu-Lapu District Representative Cindi King-Chan who happens to be his wife.
The ceremonial ribbon cutting of the project was led by Chan, Congresswoman Cindi King-Chan, representatives from the DPWH, and barangay officials.
Cindi, for her part, said that aside from Barangay Tingo residents, fisherfolks from neighboring barangays can also benefit from the causeway project.
Aside from Barangay Tingo, the city also has existing causeway projects in Barangays Mactan and Maribago. /rcg
