Security guard ‘shot’ in shipyard

By: Melissa Q. Cabahug March 13,2015 - 11:54 PM

POLICE are investigating the death of a security guard in a shipyard in barangay Tayud, Consolacion town, northern Cebu.

Edison Dura died of a gunshot wound in the shoulder. It was not immediately established if the man accidentally shot himself in the right shoulder with an improvised shotgun locally known as pugakhang or someone shot him.

Dura secured the premises of  Nagasaka Shipyard in sitio Bangkerohan for the past ten years.

Eddie Dumolong, another security guard at the shipyard, said he last saw Dura talking to welder Eduardo dela Rosa while he was patrolling in a dark area in the shipyard.

Dumolong said he later heard a gunshot. He rushed to the area where he earlier saw Dura and dela Rosa.

Dumolong and dela Rosa later found the seriously wounded security guard slumped on the ground.

SPO2 Renerio Patellas said it was possible that Dura tried to test the gun when it went off.  Dura was taken to the Mandaue City District Hospital where he was declared dead.

Police said paraffin tests will be conducted on Dura, dela Rosa and Dumolong as part of the investigation.
