60 houses razed in Basak Pardo fire

SIXTY houses were razed by a fire that hit three sitios in barangay Basak Pardo in Cebu City.

The Cebu City Fire Station received the alarm at 9:45 a.m. and the fire was put out at past 11 a.m. Displaced residents of sitios Ulap, Bamboo and Laguna in Basak Pardo are staying temporarily at the basketball court in sitio Bamboo.

Others will be housed at the Basak National High School.  Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgar Labella went to the fire scene to assist in the immediate relief operations.

He said the narrow access roads made it difficult for firefighters to put out the fire. The damage was pegged P600,000.

Students of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Basak campus were evacuated to open ground after the fire hit the nearby residential area. Most houses were made of light materials.

The Cebu City Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS) accounted the number of affected 1,212 individuals./ With Reports from Correspondent Apple Mae Taas
