Mayor Rama on leave; VM Garcia is acting mayor until Oct. 15

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia will serve as the acting mayor until Mayor Michael Rama returns.

Garcia made this announcement during the city’s weekly flag ceremony at the Plaza Sugbo grounds on Monday, October 9, 2023, which was also live streamed via the city’s public information (PIO) Facebook page.

The acting mayor said that Rama will be on leave until October 15. However, as of this posting, Garcia has not revealed the reason for Rama’s leave.

Garcia told the Cebu City employees that if they have important matters to discuss, they could visit him in his office anytime and  he said he would be present “every day.”

Cebu City, most improved highly urbanized city

Moreover, during the flag ceremony, Garcia revealed that Cebu City was named as the most improved highly urbanized city by the Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index.

Garcia said that the competitive index was a joint venture with the United States Agency for International Development.

Besides that, Garcia also acknowledged the City Hall employees for their efforts in the distribution of the financial assistance to the persons with disability (PWD) and senior citizens.
