Batang Pinoy National Finals to be held in Cebu City
It’s final. Cebu City was officially given hosting rights for the 2015 edition of the Batang Pinoy National Finals with Cebu Province as the co-host.
Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) chairman Edward Hayco announced yesterday the representatives of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will be visiting Cebu City in May for the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement with city and province officials.
They will also do an ocular inspection of the venues. The multi-sporting meet for athletes aged 12 years below will be held Nov. 27 to Dec. 2.
Hayco said he agreed to the hosting because as host, Cebu City will automatically qualify for the national finals, and the city will also be able to field in as many athletes as possible.
Also, the beach volleyball games, which would have been held in Romblon, has been transferred to Cebu City at the Plaza Independencia after the PSC’s designated beach volleyball consultant, Eric Lecain requested for the event to be held at the PSC sand courts in the city.
The coming nationals will feature 28 sports—archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, billiards, boxing, chess, cycling, dancesport, futsal, karatedo, lawn tennis, muay thai, pencak silat, rugby football, soft tennis, softball, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.
Regional qualifying legs will be held in different parts of the country with the winners gaining slots to the national level. The Luzon qualifying will be in July at Malolos, Bulacan; Visayas qualifying in September at Romblon; and the
Mindanao qualifying will be in October in Koronadal City.
The hosting job assignment for the national event was first announced last January by former DepEd 7’s Dr. Rhea Mar Angtud, who told CCSC officials that the PSC under chairman Richie Garcia has once again given the hosting job to Cebu City.
The Cebu City Niños were the champions in the 2014 Batang Pinoy National Finals held in Bacolod City.
