Mandaue city police are investigating two cases of robbery in households where the victims were also raped.

Both crimes were  believed carried out by the same person based on artist sketches of the perpetrators, said  Senior Insp. Genilo Veraque, chief of the Basak Police Station.

The twin cases have alarmed some residents living in far-flung areas.

The first incident happened last March 5 in barangay Pagsabungan.

Police said the culprit barged into the victim’s house and robbed her at gunpoint then raped the woman in front of her 10-year-old child.

Based on the blotter report at the Basak Police Station, the culprit rode a Honda XRM motorcycle and wore an orange crash helmet.

A similar incident happened last Tuesday morning in barangay Tabok.

Police said the culprit pretended to buy cellphone load from the victim’s store.

Later, the culprit, who was armed with a gun, broke into the woman’s  house, said PO1 Peter Martinez.

Police said the culprit locked up a helper and the victim’s children in a room.

The culprit then brought the woman to another room and performed lewd acts and  touched the victim’s private parts.

Police said the culprit threatened to shoot the  woman  if she shouted.

Valuable items such as cellphones and P10,000 cash were taken in the robbery.

“The culprit could be just in our area,” said Martinez.

Police said the culprit could also be the same person who broke into the house of a lawyer  Mark Angus, 38, in Liloan town, northern Cebu.

Police said it was the lawyer’s daughter who opened the gate for the man who pretended to be a friend of their helper.

Once inside, the man suddenly pointed a gun at the helper.

The intruder loudly informed  the helper that he was there to look for the lawyer’s gun.

The culprit left on a motorcycle.
He took  a cellphone and P10,000 cash.

The intruder failed to find the gun, police added.
