‘Keep homes safe during Holy Week’

Double check your locks, ask someone to watch over your home and unplug all appliances that may catch fire in case you’re heading for an out-of-town trip this Holy Week.

“They should never leave their house unattended. Burglars are on the lookout (for unsecured homes). We can always ask our neighbor to look after it from time to time,” said Chief Insp. Enrique Belciña, head of the Cebu City Police Community Relations Section.

Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, Cebu provincial police chief, also advised home owners to secure their houses and make sure that their appliances are unplugged to avoid short circuits that may cause fire.

Gillamac said they sent 150 personnel to Bantayan island, northern Cebu and in Hagnaya port in anticipation of the huge number of tourists in the area.

Both the Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu city police were placed on heightened alert since last Monday.

Senior Supt. Armando Radoc, Lapu-Lapu City police chief, said their personnel are patrolling subdivisions in cooperation with roving tanods.

In Mandaue City, Insp. Jimmy Aguisanda said travelers are advised not to bring jewelry or large amounts of cash to avoid attracting criminals.

Motorists should also ready their vehicles for long road trips, he said.

Aguisanda said traffic enforcers are on hand to help ease traffic congestion.

He said travelers should also avoid bringing alcohol and weapons in order not to be held up at checkpoints.
