Medical technologist from Paknaan is SK Federation in Mandaue president
Gayle Jumao-as, 23, will sit as a member of the city council as early as next week
MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — A 23-year-old registered medical technologist from Barangay Paknaan was elected as the president of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation in Mandaue City.
Gayle Jumao-as took oath as the federation’s president on Tuesday afternoon, November 11, after the election.
Out of the 27 barangays, Jumao-as earned 14 votes from SK Chairpersons including herself during the election presided by the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Commission on Elections.
She will sit as a member of the city council.
Registered medical technologist
DILG-Mandaue Director John Joan Mende, said that she could already assume the position and would be expected to join the city council’s session next week. She will take over the position of former SK Federation President and Councilor Dallie Mae Cabatingan.
Jumao-as is a registered medical technologist and is also taking a master’s degree at Cebu Doctors University. She assures that she can accomplish her responsibility as federation president even though she is studying.
She said that she had been exercising time management even before. Moreover, her classes are only two days a week in Saturday and Sunday.
SK prexy’s plans
Serving the public is not new for Jumao-as. She has been a youth volunteer since 2014. She also often joins medical missions and is a current president of the Kaabag Mandaue Youth Paknaan Association which usually does volunteer works.
As a leader and voice of the youth, Jumao-as wanted Sangguniang Kabataan to have its space in every barangay hall.
Aside from this, she also plans to pass ordinances and resolutions that will help and involve the youth.
“As cliche as it may sound, tinuod gyud na nga ang kabatan-unan ang pag-asa ng bayan. Usually ato madunggan sa SK, Sports but right now we will allocate not just sports related. Naa tay educational, financial literacy, and, of course youth, engagements. I am the kind of leader that is consultative, so dili ko musugot nga dili ko mangayo og opinion sa atoang SK Federation especially sa tagsa-tagsa ka chairperson sa barangay,” said Jumao-as.
(As cliche as it may sound, it is true that the youth are the hope of the country. Usually we can hear in SK, sports but right now, we will allocate not just sports related. We have educational, financial literacy, and of course, youth engagements. I am the kind of leader that is consultative, so I will not agree that we will not ask the opinion of the SK Federation especially to each of the chairpersons of the barangay.)
Other elected SK officials
Other elected officials of the Sangguniang Federasyun ng mga Kabataan ng Mandaue are Jack Plado, Gywn Macasero, Ky Asibuque, Janice Montares, Jannelle Ardon, and Jes Sungahid.
In his message, Mayor Jonas Cortes reminded the SK Federation officials and SK chairpersons to listen and repay the people with sincere public service.

Mandaue is you
“Dili ninyo pasagdan ang mandato nga gihatag sa katawhan. Ang Mandaue dili ako, (kung) dili inyo. Ako I need your help, dili ko manghambog, nalipay ko og dako nga gihatagan mo og mandato. Congratulations, together let us move forward because brighter future is upon us,” said Cortes.
(Don’t ignore the mandate that was given by the people. Mandaue is not only me, (if not) yours. Me, I need your help, I will not boast, I am happy that you have given the mandate. Congratulations, together, let us move forward because a brighter future is upon us.)
