CEBU CITY, Philippines—  The Cebu City Niños amassed 19 gold medals on day three of the ongoing Batang Pinoy National Championships in Manila.

According to Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) executive director Gayle Dico, they had already tallied 19 golds, 11 silvers, and 13 bronzes on December 20, 2023, which were unaccounted for by the Philippine Sports Commission’s (PSC) tabulators.

It means that Cebu City surpassed its 2022 Batang Pinoy National Championships final medal count held in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.  Last year, they only won nine gold medals, 12 silvers, and 26 bronzes.

Leading Cebu City’s gold medal surge on day three were its young gymnasts who won 10 gold medals, six silvers, and three bronzes.

Meanwhile, its karatekas amassed six gold medals, with two in weightlifting.

Cebu City’s gold medalists in gymnastics were Ma. Leiry Epe, who topped the vault event with a score of 9.25 points, and Jazmine Legaspi, who ruled the uneven bars with a score of 7.60 points.

Lilia Sage Dazo clinched first place in the floor exercise with a score of 8.05 points.

They also secured another gold medal in the team event with Nina Karel Aninon and Kristine Teopez, and topped another team event with Dazo, Epe, Stacey Eunice Mag-Aso, and Francine Reignh Velasco.

In boxing, four of Cebu City’s pugs—John Luiz Eronico (40-42 kilograms school boys), Sandro Ypil (44-46 kgs school boys), Nathalie Sanchez (46-48 kgs junior girls), and Allysah Juezan (44-46 kgs junior girls)—advanced to the semifinals after beating their opponents on Wednesday in Batang Pinoy.

A total of 780 delegates from Cebu City are competing in the week-long Batang Pinoy National Championships and the Philippine National Games (PNG) in Manila.
