CEBU CITY, Philippines – A construction worker was shot by responding police during an armed confrontation in Barangay Bugtong Kawayan, Barili town in southwestern Cebu on Thursday afternoon, April 11, 2024.

The suspect, Bernie Aldojesa Ponsica, 52 years old, was identified as the shooter.

Police responded to complaints from neighbors about Ponsica being armed and causing trouble while drunk.

It was reported that he would go inside his neighbor’s house because he was reportedly looking for someone.

When the police arrived, Ponsica fired at them, leading to a shootout.

The police managed to stop him by shooting him in the left lower leg.

He was taken to Barili District Hospital for treatment and will face charges under Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act for possessing firearms unlawfully. /clorenciana
