DAN Climaco led the cast of conquerors during last Sunday’s 1st Lapu-lapu Paddler’s Quest competition, which was held at the Be Resorts in Lapu-Lapu City after he bagged the top spot in the challenging Stand Up Paddle competition.

Climaco outlasted and outran his foes on the way to snaring the maiden title of the SUP race in the event, which was held as part of Mactan Island’s celebration of the Ocean Month in May.

Landing in second place behind Climaco in the 10-kilometer men’s division endurance test was Henry Desabelle while Iven Yap came in at third.

In the women’s race, Jade Abellana shone the brightest as she reigned supreme in the five-kilometer SUP women’s competition, while Sammy Scott finished second and Alieth Bontuyan landed at third spot.

The 10-kilometer Kayak Singles Male division race, meanwhile, was ruled by Walter Bandigan, while Sherwin Monagol and Gabrielle Sanchez came in at second and third, respectively.

Justine Wenke took home the highest honor in the 10-kilometer Surfski men’s division followed by Judie Singson at second and Peter Clarkson at third.

The “Baruto” edition was ruled by Jerry Calunod, who defeated Jowel Pabuaya and Christopher Nodalo for the top honors.
Pabuaya and Nodalo salvaged the second and third places, respectively.

“We are celebrating the ocean month this May so that is one of the reasons why we have decided to organize this event,” Islandbuzz-Philippines CEO Buzzy Budlong said.
