Major roads closed for June 12 parade
Cebu City residents and visitors can expect heavy traffic in the downtown area tomorrow for the afternoon parade for Independence Day.
Traffic enforcers will begin clearing the roads by 2 p.m. and close Osmeña Boulevard, Escario Street and Colon Street.
Joy Tumulak, Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) operations chief, said they will implement a close-open system.
“When the lead contingent of the parade reaches the road, it will be closed. At the tail end of the parade, a road will be opened,” he said.
Concert
He said jeepney routes like those coming and going to Escario, Osmeña Boulevard, Lahug and Guadalupe will be shortened.
“Those passing by Osmeña Boulevard will pass by V. Rama, Natalio Bacalaso and Sanciangko,” Tumulak said. He said motorists are advised to pass through the South Road Properties (SRP).
Tumulak said they expect 10,000 people to join the parade. More than 1,000 traffic enforcers will be deployed along the parade routes.
Tumulak said motorists who wish to attend a concert sponsored by a liquor company at the SRP can park their vehicles in the Plaza Sugbo Grounds.
At the Plaza Independencia, a multi-sectoral group will launch the Kontra Gutom Operation Samaritan (Koguos) Alliance of Cebu.
Paul Gullas Hubahib who represented Koguos during last Tuesday’s 888 News Forum at Marco Polo Hotel said 400 street children in Cebu City will join a “boodle fight” or communal meal.
