An intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is affecting the Visayas and Mindanao causing thunderstorms in Metro Cebu.

In its advisory the state weather bureau Pagasa said Metro Cebu will experience light to moderate rains and thunderstorms today. They also advised residents in Boljoon, Alcoy, Dalaguete and its nearby areas to take precautionary measures for possible flashflood caused by the rain.

Weather specialist Van Singson said in a phone interview that Pagasa is still  monitoring the southwest monsoon affecting the tropical system.

Cebu residents experienced rainshowers early Wednesday morning. Low lying areas were flooded but eventually receded when the showers stopped.

The showers continued for over an hour causing minor traffic as vehicles slowed down at the national highway in Mandaue City and some areas in Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City.

The ITCZ according to Singson will continue to move either farther north or south and will bring persistent rain showers.
