AFTER a five year hiatus, the Y101 Armscor Corporate Cup is back, bigger, better and with a lot of exciting surprises for the participants of the 72-hole tournament slated on July 17 at the Cebu Country Club in Banilad.
Y101 FM decided to revive the iconic tournament which started in 1980, to serve as one of the highlights of its 35th anniversary with 200 golfers from 50 corporate teams from all over the couontry expected to compete.
Last held in 2010, the event will award a brand new Peugeot car to the golfer who can score a hole-in-one in one of the selected Par-3 holes.
“There is no corporate tournament here in Cebu like the Y101 Corporate Cup. We don’t fail to give entertainment and excitement to the participants and the prizes are very great,” said tournament chair person Martha Tuason during yesterday’s launching at the Cebu Parklane Int’l Hotel.
She was joined by Joseph Stevens, vice-president for operations of GVM Radio/TV Corporation better known as Y101, tournament organizing committee member Nimrod Quiñones and Y101 President Michael Jalandoni Solon.
The tournament which uses the Modified Stableford Scoring System, will be a four-man event with the best three scores to count for the team. Three-fourths of the July 1 handicaps will be applied.
Unlike previous editions where teams used random names, this year the organizers will only allow the corporate names of the teams.
“This is one of the most anticipated golf events because of its raffle prizes including guns and this year, 20 guns from Armscor will be raffled off,” said Quiñones.
He added that a mulligan is allowed in the front nine or back nine; an extra shot will cost a player P200. However, the player will not win a hole-in-one prize while using the mulligan option. Proceeds from the mulligan will go to a charity chosen by the organizers.
“After 2010, we decided to hold it every two years. We originally set our comeback in 2013 but the typhoon and earthquake struck so we decided to cancel it. We’ve been around for long and we wanted this golf event to be our way of giving back to our avid listeners,” Jalandoni explained.
The top three winners in the three categories — Platinum, Gold and Silver will receive awards while individual prizes include lowest gross and lowest net per handicap.
Entry fee is P12,000 per team. Registration forms are available at the CCC and Y101 Studio.
