By: Jonas N. Panerio July 04,2015 - 12:19 AM

NIKE’S NATIONWIDE talent search called “Rise” hits the shores of Cebu today with the tryouts starting at 8 a.m. at the Cebu City Sports Institute in barangay San Nicolas.

Rise’s coaches headed by former national team head coach Chot Reyes will be in town to look for the best available talent who will earn slots in the House of Rise and receive top-notch coaching and training from different coaches. Joining Reyes will be his son, Josh, and his brother, Mike, who is an assistant coach at Southwestern University.

Also on hand are Paolo Gonzales, Jonathan de Guzman, Gilbert Lao and Far Eastern University assistant coach Ryan Betia, a Cebuano who, for a long time, was an assistant for the University of San Carlos.

According to Betia, Cebuanos just might have an edge over the rest of the field because of their grit and fire.

“Ang Bisaya man gud palaban. Dili mo back down. So nag-expect ko nga daghan makuha from Cebu and hopefully naa sad from Bohol, Tacloban and Negros,” said Betia.

Gonzales also expressed his excitement in seeing what Cebu has to offer for Rise.

“I’d like to see the best, untapped talent that Cebu and the nearby areas have to offer.”

The tryouts will last until 5 p.m. Rise is open to both boys and girls, aged 16 to 21 years old. After Cebu, Nike Rise brings its act to Davao City.

After the nationwide tryouts, 24 players will be selected to enjoy a six-week stay inside the House of Rise. The Rise players will get technical training, undergo strength and conditioning programs, and get special insights from various mentors.
