Mandaue to host reg’l karate meet at J Centre Mall
KARATEKAS from all over Region 7 will converge in the 2nd Regional Open Invitational Karatedo Championships 2015 which blasts off on July 25 and 26 at the J Centre Mall’s Activity Center in Mandaue City.
International Hall of Famer for karatedo Shujen Manuel Aloba, Sr. of the Do-Kyohan Karate Association Incorporated told Cebu Daily News yesterday that the two-day karatefest is expected to gather more than 300 participants from all over the region.
“Aside from being a tournament, this is also a preparation for the National Batang Pinoy Championships which will be held here in Cebu City,” said Aloba, who is also the Philippine Karatedo Federation-National Sports Association, Inc.-7’s (PKA-NSA INC.) regional director.
The kata competition for boys and girls will feature the Below-7 years old, 8-10 years old, 11-13 years old, 14-16 years old and the senior’s division.
The kumite, on the other hand, will feature age brackets Under-7, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 and the seniors division.
Among the participating cities, Cebu City is expected to field in the largest number of fighters at around 200, while Bogo City, north Cebu, will be fielding in 40 karatekas.
Also already in the list are Negros Oriental teams from Dumaguete City and Siaton and representatives from Bohol.
