The upcoming Talisay City Marathon 2 will give participants an extra challenge as some parts of its route will pass through the treacherous mountainside road of barangay Manipis.
The marathon will unfold on Aug. 16 that will start and finish at the front of the Talisay City Hall. Aside from the 42-kilometer distance, the race will also have 21k, 10k and 5k distances.
The event will be organized by the Talisay City Runners Club (TCRC) and the Talisay City Sports Commission.
This is actually the fifth year of the running event in Talisay City. It was formerly known as the Gullas Run. This is only the second year it is named Talisay City Marathon.
SEMI-TRAIL RUN
According to organizers in yesterday’s launching at the Talisay City Mayor’s Office, around eight kilometers of the entire 42k distance will be in the tough terrain of the Manipis area going to the mountain barangays of Campinsa, Tapul, Maghaway and Lasang.
To prevent the runners from being too exposed to the heat of the sun, the organizers will start the race at 3 a.m.
“The route won’t be that usual,” said one of the organizers Tony Galon. “Actually, it’s a semi-trail run because the 42k will climb up a mountain barangay and the road condition there have parts that are not concrete yet. That will surely be extra challenge to the runners.”
Talisay City Mayor Johnny V. delos Reyes spearheaded the launching yesterday along with Galon, TCRC president Alex Dalusung, TCRC official Dr. Jasmin Olorvida and race director Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE).
“We modified the route of the 42k so that it won’t be that difficult for the runners to traverse it but it will still be challenging all the way to barangay Lasang,” Baring said.
But it won’t be all that tough for runners as the mountain barangays have something in store for participants.
“There will be treats like food and delicacies for the runners as well as fresh coconut and bananas that will be offered from the community up there,” Baring added.
Registration is going on at the Talisay City Sports Commission office at the lower ground floor of the Talisay City Hall, RUNNR Ayala Center Cebu, C and J Optical at the Gaisano Fiesta Mall in Tabunok and Kai Stickers.
Registration fee is pegged at P1,300 for the 42k, P700 for the 21k, P450 for the 10k and P350 for the 5k.
