Two Joys from  opposing political parties in Cebu City will run for public office in next year’s elections.

Former vice mayor Joy Augustus Young is seeking election as north district councilor under the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK).

In Team Rama, former councilor Jocelyn “Joy” Pesquera will run for south district councilor.

“Yes, I will run. It’s high time for me to make a comeback and continue serving the people. Though I did not stop helping the city, I believe there are certain legislative measures I want to be passed,” Pesquera said in a text message to Cebu Daily News last night.

She currently sits in the board of the Metro Cebu Water District and the  Mendicancy Board, a special body under the mayor’s office.

Young could not be reached for comment yesterday but a BO-PK colleague said that he is listed in their north district slate.

Councilor Nestor Archival has been offered   the group’s vice mayoral candidate spot as runningmate of Tomas Osmeña. A final decision on who to field has yet to be made by the BO-PK.

Voters will get to see new and old faces during the campaign period  leading to the 2016 election.

Team Rama leader and Cebu City mayor Michael Rama announced a partial lineup last Thursday.

Their north district councilors include reelectionist Councilors Mary Ann Delos Santos and Noel Wenceslao; and Sambag 1 barangay captain Jerry Guardo.

In the south district, Team Rama is fielding re-electionist councilors James Cuenco, Nendell Abella, Dave Tumulak and Pagcor Parkmall branch manager Renato “Junjun” Osmeña. Rama has yet to finalize the other members of his slate.

Cebu City voters are to elect eight councilors from each of the city’s congressional districts.

Pesquera said she wanted to continue and complete the city’s codification project. She also wants to introduce amendments in the city’s sanitary and building codes.

A lawyer by profession, Pesquera now sits as a member of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) board and the mayor’s representative in the Cebu City Anti-Mendicancy Board.

She is also a member of the Waterfront Development Commission and the city’s Joint Venture Selection Committee for the third Cebu-Mactan bridge.

City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) office head Randy Navarro, who’s listed in BO-PK’s south district slate, said he will resign in September.
