The University of the Philippines Open University set a milestone when titles were conferred on the first batch of Doctor of Communication graduates last July 25.

Dr. Reynaldo B. Ardamoy and Dr. Narciso A. Cellan, Jr. are the country’s first graduates of this course.

For his dissertation, Ardamoy, assistant professor of Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, completed an Ethnographic Study of an ESL Classroom in China.

Cellan, an SVD priest who is  a missionary in Kenya, explored exchanges on social media and social networking for his dissertation .

The program, launched in 2010, is earned in distance learning.  Students enroll, interact with course mates, and answer exams online.

The DComm program aims to strengthen critical thinking skills and research, generate new theories and create new minds in the professional practice of communication.
