A 55-year-old American national was shot and wounded in his leg after he allegedly tried to attack a policeman inside a store in barangay Poblacion, Santander, southern Cebu last Saturday.

Dale Lane Dunbar, who hails from Alabama, USA, was rushed to the hospital after he was shot by PO2 Vergil Rosal, who was allegedly trying to pacify him. Rosal and PO1 Dante Deniega responded to a call for help from store owner James Belarmino, who said Dunbar became rowdy after having several drinks in his store.

Belarmino said Dunbar brandished a knife and challenged anyone to fight him.

Rosal said he fired a warning shot to stop Dunbar, but the American charged him instead.

He had no choice but to shoot Dunbar in the leg, he said.

Police said they were contemplating filing charges of alarm and scandal against Dunbar.
