After one year hiatus, Recoletos Run back on Sept. 6 at Plaza
After a one year hiatus, the Recoletos Run of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) returns on Sept. 6 starting at the Plaza Independencia.
The running event was cancelled last year after organizers failed to get from the Cebu City government a schedule and permit because of the stacked up schedule of running events.
The race will serve a kick off activity of the school’s “University Week.” It is also a fund-raising activity initiated by USJ-R’s Alumni Association for their hardworking scholars.
The Alumni association has three scholars and they are planning to add two more. Each scholar needs around P300,000 for a five-year course, according to USJ-R Alumni Association immediate past president Jojo Flores during yesterday’s launching at the USJ-R Alumni Association office at its main campus in Magallanes Street, Cebu City.
A longer distance will be offered for this year’s running event. From a 15-kilometer distance in 2013, this year’s edition will have a 16k distance as its longest route. There will also be 6k and 3k distances.
Fr. Vicente Ramon, the alumni liaison officer and the school’s vice president for finance, said the Recoletos fathers will be joining the running event for the first time.
“We are very excited to join the run.” he said. “We are praying and hoping that there will be a lot of runners who will join our running event. I think this is the time for the school to be one, to be united in this endeavor.
That’s why I am calling out both students and alumni members to join the activity.”
Fr. Ramon and Flores were joined by alumni association president Belmore Mejares, secretary Normina Cueva, vice president for internal affairs Beljan Maningo, board of director Ruel Militar and race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running.
The registration fee is pegged at P350 for the 3k, P400 for the 6k and P500 for the 16k inclusive of the race singlet, bib and refreshments after the race.
Registration is going on at the USJ-R Alumni office, USJ-R Basak Campus and at the RUNNR in Ayala Center Cebu. Registration ends Sept. 2.
