10th University Run roars off this Sunday

Expect a horde of runners to swarm the streets this Sunday for the University Run 10 (UR10) of the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU).

As of this writing, 3,100 runners have already enlisted for the race, which is one of the longest running foot races in Cebu.

It is organized by CDU and the Run For Sight Foundation Inc. of running patron Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III.

Race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running said in a coordination meeting with fellow organizers last Monday that the bulk of runners have enlisted in the shorter 6-kilometer and 3k distances. Around 300 runners have registered in the 13k and 25k distances.

Juarez said the number can still increase in the coming days.

“We are expecting to have more runners this week, especially in the longer distances, because they really want to complete the interconnecting finishers medal after the race,” Juarez said.

Aside from the regular finisher’s medal, the 13k and 25k finishers who also joined and finished the Kawasan Falls Marathon will get an extra medal that will fit with the other half that they got from the Kawasan race.

Just like in its previous editions, the route for the 25k will pass through Cebu’s three iconic bridges—the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, Old Mandaue-Mactan Bridge and the Cansaga Bridge.

Meanwhile, organizers said there will be celebrities who will be joining the race.

Larrazabal said they have yet to confirm the two celebrities who will join. He said the names will be announced before race day.

Registration is still going on at the Run For Sight Foundation Inc. headquarters at the CDU Hospital along Jones Avenue and at the CDU campus at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.

The running event is part of CDU’s University Week celebration and part of the 10th anniversary of the Run For Sight Foundation Inc.
