Donnie Nietes’ opponent for Pinoy Pride 33 named
ALA Promotions International has named the opponent of two-division world champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes for his voluntary title defense in the upcoming Pinoy Pride 33: Filipinos Kontra Filipinos slated Oct. 17 at the Stubhub Center in Carson City, California, USA.
Nietes, the current WBO light flyweight champion, will be facing Juan “Pinky” Alejo in the main event of the fight card.
The 24-year-old Alejo has a record of 21 wins and three losses with 13 wins by knockouts. He is ranked eighth in the WBO light flyweight division. He also holds the Mexican light flyweight belt.
Alejo’s last victim inside the ring was fellow Mexican Jose Rivas, whom he beat via 10-round split decision last May in Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Alejo won the Mexican light flyweight title with an 11th round technical knockout (TKO) of Jose Guadalupe Martinez last Aug. 20.
ALA Promotions International CEO Michael P. Aldeguer confirmed the news last Wednesday.
Nietes (36-1-4, 21KOs) is scheduled to fly to the US on the second week of September to continue his training there.
He is expected to spar with fellow Filipino boxing world champion Brian “Hawaiian Punch” Viloria, who also has a scheduled fight on Oct. 17 at the Madison Square Garden in New York against WBC world flyweight champion Roman Gonzales.
The Pagara brothers—IBF super bantamweight Intercontinental champion Prince Albert Pagara and WBO International light welterweight Jason Pagara— together with the undefeated Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo, will leave on Sept. 6 for the US to also continue their training there and to prepare for their bouts in the under card of the first fight card of ALA Promotions International in the USA.
