Another priest who was named auxiliary bishop of Cebu by Pope Francis will be ordained on Friday.

Hundreds of bishops and priests from around the country are expected to gather at the Palo Metropolitan Cathedral for the episcopal ordination of Most Rev. Oscar Florencio.

A Cebuano delegation led by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma will travel to Palo town in Leyte to attend the sacred liturgy and ordination rites.

“Bishop Florencio hails from Leyte. But after his ordination, he will be ours in Cebu,” said Palma in an interview.

Florencio and Most Rev. Dennis Villarojo were appointed auxiliary bishops of Cebu by Pope Francis last July 3.

Villarojo was ordained bishop at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral last Aug. 10, while Florencio will be elevated to the episcopate on Friday.

Florencio will be welcomed by Cebuanos on Sept. 7, Monday, at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. The 49-year-old Florencio, was born in Capoocan, Leyte, and was ordained priest on April 3, 1990.

From 1994 to 1999, Florencio studied in Rome at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross where he obtained a licentiate and a doctorate in Sacred Theology.
