COMMUTERS who happen to flag down taxi driver Adones Mejasco won’t reach their destinations hungry.

That’s because the 35-year-old Mejasco sells snacks like biscuits, candies and junk food to his passengers.

“It’s for passengers who want to eat something especially during rush hours,” Mejasco told Cebu Daily News.

He said he had passengers headed to Simala Church in Sibonga town, southeast Cebu who bought P200 worth of snacks from him.

Mejasco said he got the idea of selling snacks after his passengers bought all the candies he sold.

“I enjoyed selling candies, then I noticed that I really generated an income that’s why I decided to buy more like junk foods and biscuits last March 2015,” Mejasco said.

The snacks are pinned at the back seat. Some are hung near the rear view mirror. He also has a big box of junk food and biscuits.

Mejasco said he has more placed at his baggage compartment.

He said he’s grateful to the operator for supporting his sideline.

“He told me to buy a small ice box where I can place bottles of water, juice or even soft drinks,” Mejasco said.

Mejasco needed the extra P200 to P300 a day earned from selling snacks to augment his daily take of P400 to P500 to support his wife and five children.

He pays P800 daily for the taxi’s rent and P800 to P900 for gasoline.

“Sometimes the income from driving a taxi isn’t enough because of traffic congestion here in Cebu. The extra income is helpful in buying other needs, especially for my three-year old twins,” Mejasco said.

Mejasco, a native of Getafe, Bohol, moved to Talisay City, Cebu sometime in 1994.

He first worked at Carbon market and then drove motorcycles and other vehicles before managing to rent a taxi.

Mejasco said he still prefers to drive a taxi as his main source of income.
