SM malls in Cebu will join in the observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month known as Pink October or Pink Month.
Initially, the aim of Pink October was to enlighten women on the advantages of early detection by submitting to mammograms. Over the years, the scope of this event has widened, given the large number of organizations involved.
To sustain momentum of this awareness campaign and gather maximum support, SM City Cebu, SM City Consolacion and the soon-to-open SM Seaside City Cebu will hold activities throughout the month of October.
SM malls encourage its women shoppers to avail of free breast examination, consultation and counseling, happening on all Tuesdays and Thursdays of October, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the mall clinic of SM City Cebu, and at 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 14 and 28 at the mall clinic in SM City Consolacion.
Barbie dolls dressed in a specially designed pink gown by the University of San Carlos Fashion Design students are available for only P5000.
Exhibit and selling period is from Oct. 10 to 15 during mall hours at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu. This is for the benefit of ICan Serve Foundation Inc.
Own designer pink clothes by Clothes for Life in a fashion show for a cause dubbed Pink Masquerade on Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu.
SM Seaside City Cebu will also present Pink Ride, an SM to SM bike trip in pink for a cause. For only P150, a biker will receive a pink bandana, a chance to win major prizes during the raffle draw, freebies and refreshments. All bikers are encouraged to wear pink shirts. The bike trip will begin at 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the covered parking area of SM City Cebu. Bikers will pass through the mountain-side of the South Road Properties going to SM Seaside City Cebu. Proceeds will help fund the projects of ICan Serve Foundation Inc., such as high-impact information campaigns and community-based screening programs.
Registration begins on Oct. 1 to 15 at the Mall Administration Office of SM City Cebu, 2nd level of The Northwing, beside the Breastfeeding Station.
SM Seaside City Cebu’s landmark, The Cube, will also be highlighted with “pink” lights for the whole month of October.
The color “pink” represents fear of breast cancer, hope for the future and the charitable goodness of people who support breast cancer awareness.
A Pink Healing Mass sponsored by ICan Serve Foundation, Inc. and The SM Store will happen on Oct. 25 at 9 a.m. at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu.
