ONE’S physical disabilities should no longer be a hindrance to enrol in any technical-vocational courses accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).

Focal persons, tech-voc trainers in the Visayas regions underwent Sensitivity Training and Basic Sign Language course to provide equal opportunity for everyone who wants to enroll in tech-voc courses.

According to the National Statistics Office Special Report Analysis of 2000, PWD employment is at 57.12 percent compared to 82.3 percent of the general population.

The Act Providing for the Rehabilitation, Self-Development and Self-Reliance of Disabled Person and Their Integration into the Mainstream of Society and for other Purposes (RA 7277) ensures that a PWD must be given equal employment opportunity and protected from being discriminated.

This is the principle of the Tesda trainers training program conducted to capacitate them on the laws governing PWDs.

The event was held at the Betania Retreat House, Nivel Hills in Cebu City last Sept. 20 to Oct. 2.
