Mandaue Comelec office wants bigger space

THE Mandaue City office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) needs a bigger space to accommodate a larger turnout of registrants for next year’s elections.

Mandaue City Election Officer Anna Fleur Gujilde said the number of registrants has been increasing since last Saturday as the October 31 deadline draws near.

“Last Saturday’s registrants reached 400. The next day it was 500 and on Monday it was more than 500. We expected only a few will come here at the office but it’s the opposite,” Gujilde said.

She said their office can accommodate a maximum of 50 registrants for the processing of their biometrics data.

The Mandaue City Comelec office is at the second floor of the Mandaue City Sports Complex.

Gujilde said the complex is more conducive for registration.

“It’s bigger and cooler,” she said. Gujilde said their cutoff time is 5. p.m. However, they will extend the processing of  applications until  8 p.m.

Based on past experience, Guijilde said the number of registrants reaches   to more than a thousand on the last week of October.

She advised residents to visit the Comelec office this week.
