Husband now a suspect

By: Apple Ta-as November 05,2015 - 01:43 AM

Because of inconsistencies in his statements, businessman Wayne Christopher Uy is now considered a suspect in the killing of his estranged wife Agnelen.

Supt. Romeo Santander, chief of the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) of the Cebu City Police Office, said they were finalizing the charges to be filed against Uy.

Santander said Uy’s statements contradicted the footage from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, which showed that the green Kia Picanto car where Agnelen’s body was found had been parked along Almendras St. in barangay Mabolo since 5 p.m. of Oct. 28.

The husband, 41, had told police that armed men on a motorcycle took the car with his wife in it at past 7 p.m. of that day. He reported the “kidnapping” to the police three hours later.

Agnelen, 31, was found dead inside the car early in the morning of Oct. 29. She had been shot in the head and her legs bound with duct tape.

Santander said they were still waiting for the results of the  fingerprint matching and paraffin test that the husband took.

The hair strands recovered from Agnelen’s hand and other evidence found in the car have been sent to Manila. The results are not available yet.

Police initially tagged the husband as a person of interest.

The husband claimed that he and Agnelen were driving around on Oct. 28 to talk about his petition for annulment of marriage when armed men blocked their way, forced him out of the car and took his wife and car.

Santander said the CCTV footage showed a man getting off the car from the driver’s seat but because of the low quality footage, the face of the man could not be recognized.

Investigators tried to adjust the lighting of the video but the image became too pixelated.

Two of Uy’s employees in his lending firm had executed an affidavit attesting that they saw the husband tie Agnelen’s feet with duct tape after a fight inside the vehicle.

Homicide police are still trying to locate two other employees who were also reportedly with the couple that day. They had reportedly gone to their hometowns for All Saints’ Day and have not reported back for work as of yesterday.

Police suspect that Agnelen’s killer planned to burn the car, with her body inside it, to hide the crime because a plastic container with gasoline was found inside.

The Uy couple separated a few months earlier over suspicions that the victim was having an affair. The husband complained in August that Agnelen threatened to kill him.
