Taiwanese nabbed at airport for firearms possession
A Chinese national was arrested by police for possession of a submachine pistol and short firearm at Mactan-Cebu International Airport this afternoon.
Chao-Ching Hung was headed to Manila via Cebu Pacific flight 5J 576 and 5J 310 when security inspectors detected something inside his luggage at the screening area.
Police found a KG-9 submachine pistol with silencer and three magazines, one 9mm Berreta pistol and 100 rounds of live ammunition wrapped in a lead blanket.
His two phones were later seized by police. Senior Supt. Joselito Salido, chief of the Aviation Security Unit-7, said they are coordinating with the Chinese consul regarding the incident.
“Thanks to our OTS personnel for actively keeping watch of illegal items despite being demoralized due to the recent controversy over the “tanim bala (planting bullets)” scam at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA),” Salido said.
Based on his passport, Hung arrived in Cebu last Nov. 1. MCIA General Manager Nigel Paul Villarete commended the airport security personnel.
The Office of the Transportation Security also intercepted a Taiwanese man carrying three short firearms concealed in a miniature metal airplane. He is jailed at Lapu-Lapu City Jail pending the hearing of the case./Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
